Dispute Resolution Division  

Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., signed into law SB 1038 (Committee on Budget & Fiscal Review) on June 27, 2012.  Effective January 1, 2013, among other changes, the bill will amend the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) to: (1) authorize the DFEH to file and prosecute cases directly in superior court; and (2) authorize the Department prior to filing a civil action to require parties to participate in cost-free mandatory dispute resolution in the DFEH's internal Dispute Resolution Division.

  • In addition to mandatory post-investigation, pre-civil complaint mediation, the Department will continues to offer cost-free voluntary pre-investigation mediation.
